About Doon
Designed for the elements. Made to last.
Doon designs outdoor saunas and cabins shaped by Scotland’s exposed landscapes, long winters and a culture of making things properly. Every structure begins in Scotland, where we develop the form, proportions, materials and performance details needed to work year-round in demanding outdoor environments.
Heat movement, airflow, durability and longevity come first. Nothing is decorative for its own sake. Each decision is made to ensure the building performs quietly and reliably, whether it sits on a windswept coastline, beside a loch, or deep in woodland.
Founded by makers
Doon was founded by brothers Finlay and Oliver Bendit, with a simple goal: to build things properly.
We began by designing and making saunas and cabins ourselves in Scotland. Using them, maintaining them, cleaning them, and refining them over time. We obsessed over the details that don’t show up in photographs: how heat moves through a space, how materials behave after years of moisture and temperature change, and how a structure holds up to repeated, everyday use.
Through making, testing, refining, and remaking, we learnt what works.
Designed around real use
A Doon sauna or cabin is shaped by how people actually interact with it. How doors are opened with cold hands. Where wet towels land. How benches are stepped onto, sat on, and cleaned. How a space resets quickly and properly between guests.
For hospitality use, this thinking is essential. Circulation, drainage, finishes and detailing are all considered to make changeovers efficient and cleaning straightforward, without compromising the calm, considered feel of the space.
The result is a structure that works quietly in the background while delivering a refined experience for the guest.
From Scotland to Latvia
Once our designs, systems, and standards were fully developed, we partnered with specialist timber manufacturers in Latvia to produce them at scale.
Latvia has a deep tradition of sauna culture and timber craftsmanship and some of the most capable timber makers in Europe. Working with long-established manufacturing partners allows our designs to be executed with exceptional consistency, precision, and material control, while remaining faithful to the original intent.
Made for wild places
Doon saunas and cabins are intended to live outdoors. They are designed to withstand driving rain, salt air, long winters, and sustained heat without compromise. Materials are chosen for how they age, not just how they look on day one.
Externally, the buildings are designed to settle into their surroundings over time. Internally, they are warm, restrained spaces focused on comfort, clarity and use.
A considered approach
We do not produce generic models or prefabricated boxes. Every Doon sauna or cabin is the result of a deliberate design process, shaped by environment, use, and longevity.
Doon was formerly known as Bobanco.
